Florida Nursing Continuing Education Requirements
RN Requirements
- 24 hours of continuing education every 2 years (biennium)
- Medical Errors Prevention: 2 contact hours
- Laws and Rules of Nursing: 2 contact hours
- Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace: 2 contact hours — Required each biennium
- Human Trafficking: one-time
- Domestic Violence: 2 contact hours — Every third biennium
- HIV/AIDS: one-time
- First renewal after initial licensure includes a 2-hour HIV/AIDS course.
- Completions are reported electronically; keep certificates for audit.
LPN Requirements
- 24 hours of continuing education every 2 years (biennium)
- Medical Errors Prevention: 2 contact hours
- Laws and Rules of Nursing: 2 contact hours
- Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace: 2 contact hours
- Human Trafficking: one-time
APRN Requirements
- 24 hours of continuing education every 2 years (biennium)
- 3 of those hours must be pharmacology
- Pharmacology / Prescribing: 3 contact hours
- Medical Errors Prevention: 2 contact hours
- Safe and Effective Prescribing of Controlled Substances: 2 contact hours

4 contact hoursThe role of infection control is to reduce and prevent the risk for hospital-acquired infections. To practice effective infection control practices, the healthcare professional must be knowledgeable of methods to prevent infection transmission. This training provides an overview on infection control and barrier precautions and covers the most current and scientifically accepted practices in infection control as recommended by the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

- Florida uses CE Broker to track CE. General renewal normally requires 24 hours, but mandatory subject areas are included within/additional to the general requirement depending on the specific renewal cycle. Domestic Violence is required every third biennium and is in addition to the 24 hours. Nurses newly licensed by examination or endorsement have special first-renewal requirements and are exempt from the general CE hours for that first renewal. (Florida Nursing)
