Alabama Nursing Continuing Education Requirements

RN Requirements

  • 24 hrs of continuing education each renewal period
  • RN: Every 2 years, with RN renewal occurring in even-numbered years.
  • First renewal: 4 hrs Alabama Board-provided CE covering Board functions, Nurse Practice Act, regulations, professional conduct/accountability

LPN Requirements

  • 24 hrs of continuing education each renewal period
  • LPN: Every 2 years, with LPN renewal occurring in odd-numbered years. (Alabama Secretary of State)
  • First renewal: 4 hrs Alabama Board-provided CE covering Board functions, Nurse Practice Act, regulations, professional conduct/accountability

APRN Requirements

  • 24 hours of continuing education for advanced practice nurses
  • Renewal cycle: 2 years
  • Pharmacology: 6 Pharmacology
  • Required topic: Pharmacology related to prescribing/APRN practice
