Objectives

Upon completion of this independent study, the learner will be able to:

  1. Describe the stages of wound healing and factors that can delay healing.
  2. Perform a systematic head-to-toe skin assessment using inspection and palpation.
  3. Differentiate expected healing findings from changes that require prompt clinical evaluation.
  4. Apply Standard Precautions, hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and environmental controls during wound care.
  5. Develop an individualized pressure-injury prevention plan from skin and risk-assessment findings.
  6. Teach adults with diabetes and their caregivers evidence-based daily foot-care practices and warning signs.
  7. Demonstrate safe preparation, removal, assessment, and replacement steps for a closed surgical-wound dressing.
  8. Coordinate documentation, escalation, consultation, and interdisciplinary responsibilities for patients with wounds or pressure-injury risk.
