Objectives

Upon completion of this independent study, the learner will be able to:

  1. State the retrieved definition of therapeutic communication and name the theorist whose Theory of Interpersonal Relations grounded it in nursing.
  2. Explain the reported caution about eye contact and physical proximity with patients who have psychotic disorders or paranoia.
  3. List the barriers to therapeutic communication reported in the retrieved review, and state what the literature reports about the time cost of an empathic response.
  4. Name the components of the mental status examination as the retrieved chapter lists them.
